Conventions of a school magazine

One convention of a school magazine is some students or one student is happy in some part of the school or outside the school. I will utilize this as it makes it seem like the school is a happy learning environment and I want to promote the school in a way that will attract more students to join. I will make it equal so I will include a boy and a girl on the front cover and will include pictures of happy students of both sexes in a group for the contents so it makes it seem that they aren’t the only people that are happy in the school.
Another convention is that they all include a big headline to attract the audience’s eye. This attraction of the eye makes the audience look at the front cover and hopefully invite them to read the magazine so I will include such a convention to make the front cover as eye catchy as possible.

A well-lit photo is necessary to make the photo eye catchy as well so the audience to can see everything within the photo. This is needed so people don’t get confused in what should be in the photo and what shouldn’t be in as people can see an outline of one thing and think it is completely different. I will make sure that my photo is well-lit by either using a good amount of natural light or even artificial light from a studio flash with a soft box on.

A contents page needs to have a lot of contrasting colours so it stands out and attracts people’s eye. This is shown in the fusion contents and it also includes graffiti like art as well to attract the young readers that will consume this piece of media. I will utilize this convention of school magazines because it is an easy convention to include into my magazine as it will hopefully make the magazine a more of a success.

The language I will use won’t be as formal as usual as it needs to be language that is quite basic so everyone can understand and it will quite informal because I will include a lot of words like “cool” and “like” and maybe some slang words that everyone would understand. I will also use punctuation that will exaggerate the words I use like using exclamation marks to make it sound more important. This shown in the “Roundhay Roundup” because it attracts the reader’s eye and makes them read what the editor thinks is important.
