Rough Cut ----> Final Cut

This is my transformations from rough cut to final cut. As you can see my final cut looks a lot more professional and follows the codes and conventions a lot more to my style model.

Final Cut

These are the final cut designs for my magazine as I think its looks a lot more professional compared to my rough cut. Just shows you what you can do when you get your head down and just do it.

AND THE WINNING FONT IS!.... Myriad Pro!

Second Photoshoot!

Contents change

The other two photos looked good but they have to go! I have variation and this ruins the whole magazine, I will need to think hard to what i will use as I need to get a new photo before next Wednesday... Cutting it short I know

Photoshopped photos

As you can see, I haven't used photoshop too much but you can see I have changed little bits between the two photos.

Rough Cuts analysis

These are the rough cuts I have done for the magazine and I'm quite happy with how it looks so far but I know I have to improve certain parts of the magazine like the colour scheme at the minute because it is too bright on some pages and I might use a gold or black background instead of the white one. Some parts need improving but because I need to get completed by my deadline, some parts of been neglected because I thought I had done enough but turns out, I was wrong.

I need to definitely put more information on the front cover because it doesn't look anything like my template, Mixmag. I need to change the background as well but I'm planning on re-doing the photos with a natural background behind them so that should be improved by the my final cut.

The contents page is way too bright when I think about it now because it will just make people not want to read my magazine because it will be too bright and it might hurt people's eyes or they might just find it annoying. I also need to include a new photo to make seem a bit more professional which will improve my marks.

The double page spread is my favourite as it just looks the most professional and I added my own touch by letting some the writing overlap the photo but from the feedback I received, no one else did. If I have to change something it will have to be the writing overlapping because it is unconventional and it could lose me some marks because of this.

Overall, i still have a lot more work to put into this before i can say clearly that it was a success and compare it to a real magazine and then get the mark I want.

Front Cover Analysis(5)

This front cover from DJ mag is one of the most conventional magazines I have ever seen, it has everything you want and always seen on the front cover of a dance magazine from the iconic title of the magazine all the down to the small parts like the price, date and barcode. The front cover also has a lot of information on the front of it showing the consumer that this magazine has a lot to offer for the money you are paying for it, this makes the magazine look like it a bargain leading to more people buying it and improving the companies profit on the magazine. The big writing in contrasting colours is supposed to catch the eye of the consumers and make them want to buy the magazine because the information inside is to their liking and because they have a lot of writing on the front, it also shows that they have something for everyone that like DJ's or dance music to read. The editor has even included a big picture with effects on that makes it seem like drawing and this makes people wonder why he is like this, is it because he is so good its unrealistic? Who knows. The editor has even included all the small pieces of information needed like the issue number, price and website without tarnishing the picture or the rest of  the information on the page and this makes it seem less crowded and doesn't make it seem like a young kid designed the front cover.

I plan on taking the idea of the putting a lot of information on the front as it makes it seem like my magazine can attract all kinds of consumers of dance music. I also might use the idea of putting a website and issue number etc. to good use and make it small enough for people to read but not take up too much space that it leaves space for other more important parts of the magazine like articles.

Double Page Spread Analysis (5)

This double page spread from DJ mag is basically identical to the one I want to produce because it the perfect article lay out as many dance magazines use this layout as seen in earlier analysis of Mixmag and I have seen it used on smaller magazines as well.

The writing format is in paragraphs so it shows the audience that they are talking about the band and including the odd quote from now and then. This is shown throughout the article and the title is big to attract

The layout I think looks very professional and very neat so I like it and I think it will improve my marks as it is also one of the most used layout so it makes it look even more like I based on my model. The only difference I will make is that my layout for the interview will be slightly different as i'm doing it as a question and answer format while this is just straight out talking about Brooklyn Calling.

Like I have said, I plan on using the same layout but I don't think I will have the space to include the big title so I have to give that a miss... sadly.

Contents analysis (5)

This is one of the latest edition of Mixmag and the contents hasn't changed throughout from near enough the beginning of the magazine to now. This proves that the layout of the contents is working for the magazine and this is why i'm modelling my magazine on Mixmag.

The only main difference from this contents and the last contents I analysed is that they had a small image above the writing to show that they had plenty to offer to the consumer but this time, they have decided to show it in writing as it is a smaller font compared to the last one as it contains more articles and this is obvious to the consumer showing again that the magazine has a lot to offer to the audience.

The main picture doesn't have a lot going on but it is obvious to me that the woman in the picture is dancing or moving to a beat as her hands are in an unusual manor and this shows to the audience that it is an action shot to show that she is having a good time at the concert/party/festival.

I am wanting to use the image above the writing because I don't have enough time to think of more articles to use and so on so I need to express to my audience that I have plenty of article and plenty to offer to them by using pictures and show that my magazine has the ability of getting more than one big name. The image i'm going to use is based on what will be on the article so I can't use this for my main picture but it will be used for the smaller picture as all my other articles are about concerts or festivals so I think this is a better idea.
